In the last ten years the International School Groningen has doubled its student number from approximately 100 to 200. This has put extra pressure on our accommodation and we have survived by using temporary accommodation, ‘borrowing’ classrooms from the Maartenscollege and other various means. However, we have not had the high standard of classrooms that we expect in an international school. There is a lack of identity and a lack of a common area for students to relax and have break and lunch. Fully funded by our governing body, the Stichting Carmelcollege, we began, on 8 March to clear the way for a new building consisting of 7 new classrooms, staff room, offices and a canteen area. In addition, we will be creating a new outside area to link the new building with the current Esserberg villa.
With an expected completion date in June we will be ready for a grand opening in September – watch this space!
