On Friday the 10th of April MYP4 and 5 will be taking part in an event at the University in Groningen. The event is part of the University’s secondary schools outreach programme.
The event is about ‘Radicalisation’ and pupils will listen to two University professors (Dr Pieter Nanninga and Dr. Erin Wilson) talk about Islamic State (IS) and discuss its background and whether IS truly represents Islam. After these mini lectures pupils will then go to ImagesForum to see the film ‘Omar’.
The schedule for the 10th is as follows:
11.40 Pupils leave lessons at school and make their own way to Acadmiegebouw at the RuG
12.15 Welcome drink
12.30 Lecture 1
13.00 RuG students talk about their studies
13.30 Lecture 2
14.00 Pupils make their way to Images Forum to see the film ‘Omar’
14.30 Film ‘Omar’ starts
16.00 Film finishes and pupils make their own way home
The afternoon will be a challenging one. The film is in Arabic with Dutch subtitles and some of the speakers are in Dutch and some in English. However we as a school believe that the event in itself is more than worth the effort that pupils will need to make in order to access the afternoon.
Staff accompanying the trip will be Florence Sinyei, Vicky Ingram and Caroline Bennett. All pupils are expected to attend this event and attendance will be taken.
Any questions regarding this event can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
With kind regards,
Caroline Bennett and Vicky Ingram, mentors of MYP4 and MYP5
